If you are VAT registered and you still file your VAT Returns in paper format or you still pay your VAT by cheque, you need to register for VAT online filing before the end of the month (March 2012).

Virtually all VAT customers MUST file their VAT Returns online and pay any VAT due electronically for accounting periods starting on or after 1 April 2012.
It takes a few days to register for VAT online, so ensure you register as soon as possible.

Penalties may be issued if you do not file your VAT Returns online or pay electronically.

For details of how to pay electronically, visit the HMRC website at www.hmrc.gov.uk/payingvat which gives you the methods you can pay the VAT due.

Once you are registered for VAT online filing, you won’t receive a paper return in the post anymore. You can set up email reminders via the HMRC website to remind you when your VAT Returns are due.

As a tax agent, we have already registered all our clients for VAT online filing and we file the majority of our clients VAT Returns for them. If you would like help in registering for VAT online filing, or you think you might need to be VAT registered and would like some help and advice, contact us and we will be happy to help.
